    Description

ANTIQUE CABINET CARD PHOTOGRAPH OF AN AFRICAN AMERICAN MAN HOLDING A RIFLE.
He’s in a studio setting with classical motif. His eyes look up, as though he's on the hunt for birds. He holds the shotgun aloft so we can see it. The photographer did a nice job of framing it.
Note the hay on the floor. Perhaps the gallery owner didn’t want to work too hard, and so didn’t spread it around.
RIFLE. An expert informed me this is a PUMP SHOTGUN and possibly an ITHACA.
PHOTOGRAPHER. At bottom of mount: "Whipple and Co 6219 WENTWORTH AVE. CHICAGO."
IDENTIFICATION. Ink handwriting on the back identifies the man as "S.E.B. Wedington Rahway N.J"
One wonders how he ended up getting his picture taken in Chicago.
    SIZE. Approximately 6 1/2 x 4 1/4 inches.
CONDITION. Spots and some soiling. Scuffing, which is more apparent when tilted. Mount: Wear at top corners. Clipped bottom corners. Soiling, front and back.
APPEARANCE. Very good tones. Very good details. Great pose. Nice composition.
